Beethoven’s Legacy

featuring Maxim Lando, Piano
MARGARET BROUWER - Centennial Bells from Century’s Song
LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN - Symphony No. 1 in C Op. 21
LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN- Piano Concerto No. 5 “Emperor”

By the time Beethoven wrote his Fifth Piano Concerto, known as the “Emperor,” he was already too deaf to perform it himself. He never heard it played in public. Internationally acclaimed pianist Maxim Lando takes on that towering work alongside Beethoven’s First Symphony, written decades earlier when the composer was still young and untested. The distance between those two pieces tells you everything about what a life in music costs, and what it gives back.
