Musica Nova

Musica Nova is a commissioning club founded by the Anchorage Symphony in the 2003/2004 season to promote the creation and performance of new works.

The horn section of the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra.

Supporting new music for more than 15 years

The Anchorage Symphony is proud to be North of Ordinary… a bit different from orchestras in other parts of the country.

In recent years Symphony Magazine decided to do feature stories on orchestras who were introducing indigenous music to their audiences or adding multi-media to their programs. They contacted us and learned that the Anchorage Symphony introduced cultural performers to our programming some 10 years earlier and showcased multi-media at our first concert in the Atwood Concert Hall over 30 years ago!

It is unusual for orchestras of our size to commission new work; the Anchorage Symphony has commissioned new work every year for the last 17 seasons through a group of donors who make up our commissioning club called Musica Nova, committed to adding the voice of our time to the orchestral repertoire. Musica Nova members have helped your Anchorage Symphony commission new works from astounding composers across the globe - and in so doing have the opportunity to hear directly from composers what influenced the creation of the new works.

Please email us to be contacted when the next commission has been set and we are ready for new members.
