Part of the Classic Concert Series

America at 250

featuring Curtis Stewart, violin
GEORGE GERSHWIN - Of Thee I Sing
SAMUEL BARBER - Violin Concerto
AARON COPLAND - Symphony No. 3

Copland wrote the Fanfare for the Common Man in 1942, at the height of World War II, as a tribute to the everyday American. It arrives at the end of his monumental Third Symphony, and hearing it build to that moment is one of those experiences that stops you cold. GRAMMY® Award-nominated violinist Curtis Stewart performs Barber’s deeply lyrical Violin Concerto, and Gershwin’s Of Thee I Sing Overture opens the evening. America turns 250 this year. This is what it sounds like.
