Part of the Classic Concert Series
America at 250
Tim Fain, Violin
GEORGE GERSHWIN - Of Thee I Sing
SAMUEL BARBER - Violin Concerto
AARON COPLAND - Symphony No. 3
Copland wrote the Fanfare for the Common Man in 1942, at the height of World War II, as a tribute to the everyday American. It arrives at the end of his monumental Third Symphony, and hearing it build to that moment is one of those experiences that stops you cold. Violinist Tim Fain, whose playing has been heard on the soundtracks to Black Swan, 12 Years a Slave, and Moonlight, brings his remarkable artistry to Barber’s lyrical Violin Concerto. Gershwin’s Of Thee I Sing Overture opens the evening.
America turns 250 this year. This is what it sounds like.

10/22 - Artist Update: Curtis Stewart has withdrawn from the America at 250 for health reasons. He wrote: “I recently received an unexpected medical diagnosis, which will unfortunately force me to step back from performing this fall to focus on my recovery. I will be devoting this time to composing, and I plan to return to performance in spring 2027. If you know me, you know this experience will soon find its way into my music. Thank you to the presenters, collaborators, and audiences who make this work possible.”
The ASO sends Curtis our very best wishes as he focuses on his recovery.
The ASO is pleased to welcome back violinist Tim Fain, known for his performances on the Black Swan and 12 Years a Slave soundtracks and his longtime collaboration with Philip Glass.
The America at 250 program remains unchanged, and all tickets remain valid.
