Pre-Concert Activities

Words on Music
Susan Wingrove, ASO Education Consultant, presents a pre-concert lecture "Words on Music" on the night of performance. The discussions focus on composers, repertoire and musical themes. Audience size ranges from 80 to 200 for these discussions and the lecture/discussion is interpreted in American Sign Language. "Words on Music" is presented in the Concert Hall one hour prior to each Classic Concert performance.
Lunch and Learn
Maestro Fleischer or special guests lead "Lunch and Learn," an informal discussion during the noon hour on the Friday prior to each Classic Concert. These sessions are co-sponsored by the Anchorage Municipal Libraries and are held at the Loussac Library. Participants gather to hear the fascinating stories behind the music and have the opportunity to preview books on composers and classical music recordings available at their local libraries.
Symphony Preview Show
KLEF 98.1 FM

Maestro Fleischer or a selected guest take the microphone on the Thursday night (7pm) prior to each Classic Concert, offering you a preview of the works featured on the upcoming concert.
Program Notes
ASO Education Consultant, Susan Wingrove, prepares comprehensive notes about the composers and their work for each Classic Concert. Program notes are published in the program distributed at the concerts. These notes are also available on audio-tapes at the Talking Book Center (344 West 3rd Ave, Anchorage Alaska) for blind and visually impaired patrons.
